The first thing you notice when you enter Heidi Thöni's studio is the smell of paint. Canvases lean against the wall, some finished, many still in the middle of the process. This is where the portraits are created that later hang in the gallery.

Layer by layer

For Heidi Thöni, a face never comes together in one go. She applies paint, scrapes it off again, paints over it and lets textures remain. It often takes days before she decides that a work is finished.

The eyes always come last. Only then do I know who is looking at me.

Open to visitors

The studio is part of Freeart Studio. On request, Heidi Thöni shows visitors what she is currently working on and shares the stories behind her works.
